“The Rise and Fall of the Black Hole Paradigm” is a book by Indian astrophysicist Abhas Mitra, which challenges the current understanding of black holes in astrophysics. Mitra argues that the concept of black holes is based on flawed mathematical assumptions and argues for a new paradigm that can explain the observed phenomena without the need for black holes. Mitra critiques the current understanding of black holes and offers alternative explanations for the observations that are traditionally attributed to them. He also delves into the history of black hole research and the social and institutional factors that have contributed to the continued dominance of the black hole paradigm in astrophysics.
