River Out Of Eden
Rs. 1,990.00
Richard Dawkins
The River Out of Eden is a book by Richard Dawkins that explains how evolution works. Dawkins uses the metaphor of a river of DNA to describe the flow of genetic information from the beginning of life on earth to the present day. He argues that DNA is the most sophisticated information system known to exist and explains how it has driven the process of evolution over billions of years. The book focuses on how evolution happens, rather than a chronological narrative of what has happened in evolution. Dawkins also discusses current theories on human evolution, including the idea that we all trace back to a recent African “Eve,” and suggests that the “information explosion” that occurred with the advent of DNA has likely happened elsewhere in the universe. The book was a bestseller and was well-received for its clear and accessible explanations of complex scientific concepts.

The popular science equivalent of Who Do You Think You Are?
Popular science master Brian Clegg’s new book is an entertaining tour through the science of what makes you you.
What’s great about the book overall is both Clegg’s gift as a storyteller – it’s just an excellent, pageturning read – and the way he threads together so many revelations about us as humans, the sort of thing that you want to share with someone else. ― popularscience.co.uk
The most interesting part is when the book explores what consciousness is (or, rather, highlights how little we know about it but still shows how much more there is to “us” than the conscious part) and pulls apart the old nature versus nurture debate with some remarkable material on genetics and how the influence of our environment is mathematically chaotic. ― Peet Morris, Times Higher Education

Explaining Life Through Evolution
Rs. 2,690.00or 3 X Rs.896.67 withRead moreProsanta Chakrabarty
“A good book for people who want straight answers to tough questions about evolution.” –– Dr. Mary Jane West-Eberhard, author of Developmental Plasticity and Evolution and 2021 recipient of the Linnean Medal
“This incredibly readable and engaging primer on evolutionary principles and processes is a ‘must have’ for any reader’s bookshelf. I enjoyed not only the elaboration of how evolution works but also the sections on misconceptions and applications. It even clarifies important timely topics like race as a social rather than genetic construct and our current COVID-19 pandemic.” — Dr. Mohamed Noor, Darwin-Wallace Medal winner; Dean of Natural Sciences, Duke University
“An enlightening and entertaining climb through the tree of life. Prosanta Chakrabarty is a superb educator who wants more than anything to persuade you to think. He offers an accessible and affable guide to evolution, what it is, what it isn’t, how it works and why it matters – especially right now. Essential reading for students, teachers and anyone who’s ever wondered how life on earth came to be the way it is.” — Dr. Helen Scales, author of Spirals in Time and The Brilliant Abyss
“Chakrabarty weaves his lived experiences into this poignant discussion of evolution, covering key concepts that are vital to our understanding of current conditions like mutation and natural selection. Important for any book on evolutionary biology is discussion of how the discipline has been (too often) misused to conflate socially constructed categories like gender, and here Chakrabarty’s incandescent analysis shines light on the problems with historical and present-day interpretations of evolution, while enlightening us about those who work at the cutting edges of the field. We need this book, to guide us through viral pandemics and social change, and to provide literacy so that we can work together toward a thriving future world.” — Dr. Jessica Ware; Associate Curator, American Museum of Natural History and winner of the ‘Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers’
