What If ?: Serious Scientific Answers To Absurd Hypothetical Questions
Rs. 2,490.00
Randall Munroe
With this book and with XKCD, you’re a kid with a chemistry set all over again. [Randall Munroe’s] enthusiasm for all things scientific is infectious . . . required reading for grown-ups, it’s just fun to remember that science is really, really cool ― REGISTER
Smart answers to silly questions: Randall Munroe reveals all ― GUARDIAN
What If? maintains a delightfully free-wheeling tone throughout, especially when complicated calculations lead to whimsical results. Despite all the hard facts and gigantic numbers, it never feels like a textbook-and you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to enjoy it ― ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
The best bathroom book you’ll ever buy…Munroe takes inane, useless and often quite pointless questions asked by real humans (mostly sent to him through his website), and turns them into beautiful expositions on the impossible that illuminate the furthest reaches, almost to the limits, of the modern sciences .The first chapter, “Q. What would happen if the Earth and all terrestrial objects suddenly stopped spinning, but the atmosphere retained its velocity?” ends with the anthropomorphized moon worrying over the state of the Earth, and, with the gravity generated by its own rotation around the Earth, saving our dying planet. The physics are real; so is the emotional content. . . The answers are all illustrated with xkcd’s trademark stick figures.. . . . and these are eminently approachable ― NEWSWEEK
What If? includes old favorites, new inquiries and the mix of expert research and accessible wit that has made Munroe a favorite among both geeks and laymen ― TIME

“The mandatory book to read in these treacherous times of financial crisis. . . . A thoughtful and intimate biography of the globe’s wisest investor.”—Forbes
“Will mesmerize anyone interested in who Mr. Buffett is or how he got that way. The Snowball tells a fascinating story.”—New York Times“If the replication of any great achievement first requires knowledge of how it was done, then The Snowball, the most detailed glimpse inside Warren Buffett and his world that we likely will ever get, should become a Bible for capitalists.”—Washington Post
“Anyone who has been watching events unfold in recent months—which would be everyone—can now appreciate the wisdom of Buffett. . . . The most authoritative portrait of one of the most important American investors of our time.”—Los Angeles Times
“Schroeder . . . has a meat-and-potatoes style that matches the homespun wisdom of her subject. . . . Now more than ever, Buffett’s emphasis on fundamentals seems like genius. It’s the perfect moment for a great book on an immensely inspiring capitalist.”—People, four stars
“Schroeder . . . is well equipped to elucidate Buffett’s deals [and] Buffett’s life abounds with good stories.”—New Yorker
“A penetrating and personal look at the Oracle of Omaha . . . An astute, and at times riveting, read—especially now.”—BusinessWeek
“Everyone knows that in a deep and liquid capital market like that of the US, it is just about impossible to beat the stock market averages over anything more than the short term. But Buffett has been ahead of the curve for most of the past 50 years, making him one of the world’s richest people. Alice Schroeder’ s massive authorized biography, The Snowball, provides some clues about how he’s done it.”—Financial Times
“This massive—and highly readable—text (produced with Buffett’s full cooperation) is an unvarnished and well-paced biography that is essential for all public and academic business collections.”—Library Journal
“An excellent and highly enjoyable look at the business titan . . . If you’ve looked at your 401(k) statement and started to fear that everyone in financial markets is either greedy, predatory or incompetent, do yourself a favor. Take $35 out of the mattress and buy a copy of Alice Schroeder’s The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life. At a time like this, it’s a real comfort: Buffet is living proof there’s at least one wholly rational person managing money.”—Houston Chronicle
“Ms. Schroeder does a good job of pulling . . . volunteered disclosures out of Mr. Buffett but her real contribution is her own investment expertise which enables her to make the convoluted financing schemes over the last 50 years understandable to lay readers and truly instructive to the business information junkie.”—Washington Times
“Top-notch biographies demand thorough research and crisp, finely honed writing. Schroeder exhibits both. . . . It’s hard to imagine a more complete account of Buffett’s life had he written it himself.”—Buffalo News
“Riveting and encyclopedic . . . The overall power of the story carries The Snowball forward. There is much to be learned from it.”—Wall Street Journal
“A monumental biography . . . Schroeder got the best access yet of any Buffett biographer. . . . She deals out marvelously funny and poignant stories about Buffett and the conglomerate he runs, Berkshire Hathaway.”—Forbes

Liftoff: Elon Musk and the Desperate Early Days That Launched SpaceX
Rs. 2,890.00or 3 X Rs.963.33 withRead moreEric Berger
‘Just read it.’ –Elon Musk
“The elegant brilliance of the engineering that allows today’s space rockets to land themselves back on earth—or at sea—right way up, and on target to the inch, is all the doing of the teams assembled by Elon Musk—and the story of how he did it, and how for sure he will get us to Mars whether we like it or not, is told in appropriately stellar fashion by Eric Berger in a book that held me captive, in earth orbit, from prologue to epilogue, countdown to splashdown.” — Simon Winchester, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Perfectionists
“A colorful page-turner.” — WALTER ISAACSON, New York Times Book Review
“Liftoff reads like something out of the golden age of Science Fiction but this isn’t a novel by Robert Heinlein or Arthur C. Clarke. This is the true, astounding story of the men and women who spun those sci-fi dreams into reality.” — Homer Hickam, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author of Rocket Boys
“Eric Berger has followed the exploits of SpaceX and its founder, Elon Musk, from its very early days. In Liftoff, Eric relates the many personal accounts collected in one-on-one interviews with Musk and many of his key leaders and associates. He chronicles the frenetic pace of Falcon 1 development and the toll it took on many of the early employees. This is a book that will hold your rapt attention from start to finish.” — Charles Bolden, Former NASA Administrator and Four-Time Astronaut
“Eric Berger brings to life the passion and sacrifice of the early SpaceX team as they navigated through countless obstacles toward unlikely success. The skillfully described technical details, paired with a candid glimpse into individual personalities, makes Liftoff a must read for space enthusiasts and novices alike.” — KAREN NYBERG, NASA Astronaut
“This might be the best space book I’ve ever read. Liftoff will prove to be a defining story not only for the commercial space industry, but for the Space Age writ large, and there’s no one better than Eric Berger to tell it.” — KELLIE GERARDI, author of Not Necessarily Rocket Science
“Compelling. … Great reading. … An essential, unofficial reference test for what to do (and not do) as space flight goes commercial. … Fascinating.” — New Scientist
“Does a fine job of telling the white-knuckle story of how SpaceX was created in 2002 and came close to collapse several times.” — Financial Times
