Unparenting: Sharing Awkward Truths with Curious Kids
Rs. 1,390.00
Reema Ahmad
Through her own awkward journey as a confused single parent, Reema Ahmad explores what it means to explore newer ways of bringing up children-ways that nurture their sense of innocence and curiosity while giving them the freedom to choose their own truths. Reema invites you to hop along as she and her son, Imaad, learn to laugh and make up stories about why penises shape-shift, the mysteries of pubic hair, the magic of adolescent crushes and the confounding maze of dating and sex. Join them as they explore these mysteries and other serious topics like abuse, adult relationships, divorce and dying-issues that adults often forget to wonder at and seldom question.
More than anything else, Unparenting is a vibrant, whacky testimony to a parent-child relationship where the child leads and the parent follows. Written in the form of deeply personal, engaging and often humorous essays, the book is a powerful reminder of what it feels like to be lost and misunderstood as a child, and how important it is to challenge what we think we know as parents.

- JP MORGAN’S BEST SUMMER READ OF 2016
- New York Times bestseller
- Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Nonfiction (2016)
In this instant New York Times bestseller, Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent, but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.” “Inspiration for non-geniuses everywhere” (People).
“Grit delves into the personal ingredients of great success. It’s worth reading…the gist is that talent and skill are less valuable than effort.” —Andrew Ross Sorkin, The New York Times
“It really isn’t talent but practice—along with passion—that makes perfect, explains psychologist Duckworth in this illuminating book. Inspiration for non-geniuses everywhere.” —People
“[Have] no doubt: Grit is great. It’s a lucid, informative, and entertaining review of the research Angela has assiduously conducted over the past decade or so. The book also includes suggestions on how to develop grit, and how we can help support grit in others. There are few people who wouldn’t learn something from this book.” —Scientific American (blog)
“Duckworth is the researcher most associated with the study and popularization of grit. And yet what I like about her new book, Grit, is the way she is pulling away from the narrow, joyless intonations of that word, and pointing us beyond the way many schools are now teaching it…Most important, she notes that the quality of our longing matters. Gritty people are resilient and hard working, sure. But they also, she writes, know in a very, very deep way what it is they want.” —David Brooks, New York Times
“Offers invaluable lessons to business leaders, parents, recruiters, and almost anyone who wishes to have a roadmap to achieve greater levels of success.” —Forbes

The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion

Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Nonfiction (2012)
“Haidt is looking for more than victory. He’s looking for wisdom. That’s what makes The Righteous Mind well worth hearing…a landmark contribution to humanity’s understanding of itself.―-New York Times Book Review
“Jonathan Haidt is one of smartest and most creative psychologists alive, and his newest book, The Righteous Mind, is a tour de force—a brave, brilliant and eloquent exploration of the most important issues of our time. It will challenge the way you think about liberals and conservatives, atheism and religion, good and evil. This is the book that everyone will be talking about.”—Paul Bloom, Yale University, Author of How Pleasure Works
“As a fellow who listens to heated political debate daily, I was fascinated, enlightened, and even amused by Haidt’s brilliant insights. This penetrating yet accessible book will help readers understand the righteous minds that inhabit politics.” —Larry Sabato, University of Virginia, author of A More Perfect Constitution
“A remarkable and original synthesis of social psychology, political analysis, and moral reasoning that reflects the best of sciences in these fields and adds evidence that we are innately capable of the decency and righteousness needed for societies to survive.” —Edward O. Wilson, University Research Professor Emeritus, Harvard University
“Here is the first attempt to give an in depth analysis of the underlying moral stance and dispositions of liberals and conservatives. I couldn’t put it down and discovered things about myself!” —Michael Gazzaniga, University of California, Santa Barbara, author of The Ethical Brain
“A well-informed tour of contemporary moral psychology…A cogent rendering of a moral universe of fertile complexity and latent flexibility.” –Kirkus
“[Haidt’s] framework for the different moral universes of liberals and conservatives struck me as a brilliant breakthrough…The Righteous Mind provides an invaluable road map.” –Miller-McCune.com
“An important and timely book…His ideas are controversial but they make you think…Haidt has made his reputation as a social psychologist at the University of Virginia, where he and his colleagues explore reason and intuition, why people disagree so passionately and how the moral mind works.” —Bill Moyers, Moyers & Company
“Highly readable, highly insightful…The principal posture in which one envisions him is that of a scrappy, voluble, discerning patriot standing between the warring factions in American politics urging each to see the other’s viewpoint, to stop demonizing, bashing, clobbering…Haidt’s real contribution, in my judgment, is inviting us all to sit at the table.” –Washington Times
“Haidt’s work feels particularly relevant now…The Righteous Mind isn’t just election-year reading. Haidt’s perspective can help us better understand our own political and religious leanings.” –San Francisco Chronicle
“A profound discussion of the diverse psychological roots of morality and their role in producing political conflicts. It’s not too much to hope that the book will help to reduce those conflicts.” —Richard E. Nisbett, University of Michigan, author of The Geography of Thought“The Righteous Mind refutes the ‘New Atheists’ and shows that religion is a central part of our moral heritage. Haidt’s brilliant synthesis shows that Christians have nothing to fear and much to gain from the evolutionary paradigm.”—Michael Dowd, author of Thank God for Evolution
“Haidt’s research has revolutionized the field of moral psychology. This elegantly written book has far-reaching implications for anyone interested in politics, religion, or the many controversies that divide modern societies. If you want to know why you hold your moral beliefs, and why many people disagree with you, read this book”. —Simon Baron-Cohen, Cambridge University, Author of The Science of Evil“The Righteous Mind is an intellectual tour de force that brings Darwinian theorizing to the practical realm of everyday politics. The book is beautifully written, and it is truly unusual to encounter a book that makes a major theoretical contribution yet encourages one to turn its pages enthusiastically.” —Christopher Boehm, University of Southern California, author of Moral Origins.

International Bestseller
Decrypting body language has been a fascinating subject for me. There are a number of different ‘theories’ for interpreting our common gestures. Allan Pease’s Body Language is book is a brief, well-organized and easy to understand guide book which contains the basics of non-verbal communication. With everything being explained from a practical standpoint, readers of any understanding of the subject could read the book quite easily. – Tharindu Dissanayake
Many years ago, one of my martial arts instructors made his students read this book. At the end of the lesson he would set a chapter to read before we came back for next week’s lesson. Reading that chapter was not optional, because he would ask each student something about the homework chapter. We thought his fascination with the book was a little strange to begin with, but we quickly learned otherwise. We didn’t know it at the time, but our instructor was teaching us about situational awareness. Reading body language is a big part of situational awareness, and most instructors don’t have time (or the knowledge) to go into the fine details of the subject. This is a great book that everyone should read at least once in their lives, it’s easier to avoid trouble if you can read the moods of the people around you. – Beau Johnston

Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End
Rs. 1,790.00or 3 X Rs.596.67 withRead moreAtul Gawande
- Named a Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, The New York Times Book Review, NPR, and Chicago Tribune.
“American medicine, Being Mortal reminds us, has prepared itself for life but not for death. This is Atul Gawande’s most powerful–and moving–book.” ―Malcolm Gladwell
“Being Mortal left me tearful, angry, and unable to stop talking about it for a week. . . . A surgeon himself, Gawande is eloquent about the inadequacy of medical school in preparing doctors to confront the subject of death with their patients. . . . it is rare to read a book that sparks with so much hard thinking.” ―Nature
Medicine has triumphed in modern times, transforming the dangers of childbirth, injury, and disease from harrowing to manageable. But when it comes to the inescapable realities of aging and death, what medicine can do often runs counter to what it should.
Through eye-opening research and gripping stories of his own patients and family, Gawande reveals the suffering this dynamic has produced. Nursing homes, devoted above all to safety, battle with residents over the food they are allowed to eat and the choices they are allowed to make. Doctors, uncomfortable discussing patients’ anxieties about death, fall back on false hopes and treatments that are actually shortening lives instead of improving them.
In his bestselling books, Atul Gawande, a practicing surgeon, has fearlessly revealed the struggles of his profession. Here he examines its ultimate limitations and failures―in his own practices as well as others’―as life draws to a close. Riveting, honest, and humane, Being Mortal shows how the ultimate goal is not a good death but a good life―all the way to the very end.

“In a world where too many people think they know what isn’t so, there are few skills more vital than critical thinking and rethinking. This is the guide parents need to teach their kids to become thoughtful consumers of information.”
–Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Think AgainA guide for parents to help children of all ages process the onslaught of unfiltered information in the digital age.
Education is not solely about acquiring information and skills across subject areas, but also about understanding how and why we believe what we do. At a time when online media has created a virtual firehose of information and opinions, parents and teachers worry about how students will interpret what they read and see.
Amid the noise, it has become increasingly important to examine different perspectives with both curiosity and discernment. But how do parents teach these skills to their children?
Drawing on more than twenty years of experience homeschooling and developing curricula, Julie Bogart offers practical tools to help children at every stage of development to grow in their ability to explore the world around them, examine how their loyalties and biases affect their beliefs, and generate fresh insight rather than simply recycling what they’ve been taught. Full of accessible stories and activities for children of all ages, Raising Critical Thinkers helps parents nurture passionate learners with thoughtful minds and empathetic hearts.

The Ikigai Journey: A Practical Guide to Finding Happiness and Purpose Japanese Way

SEQUEL TO IKIGAI: THE JAPANESE SECRET TO A LONG AND HAPPY LIFE
In The Ikigai Journey, authors Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles take their international bestseller Ikigai: the Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life a step further by showing you how to find your own ikigai through practical exercises, such as employing new habits and stepping outside your comfort zone.
Ikigai is the place where our passion (what we love), mission (what we hope to contribute), vocation (the gifts we have to offer the world) and profession (how our passions and talents can become a livelihood) converge, giving us a personal sense of meaning. This book helps you bring together all of these elements so that you can enjoy a balanced life.
Our ikigai is very similar to change: it is a constant that transforms depending on which phase of life we are in. Our “reason for being” is not the same at 15 as it is at 70. Through three sections, this book helps you to accept and embrace that―acting as a tool to revolutionize your future by helping you to understand the past, so you can enjoy your present.
* Section 1―Journey Through the Future: Tokyo (a symbol of modernity and innovation)
* Section 2―Journey Through the Past: Kyoto (an ancient capital moored in tradition)
* Section 3―Journey Through the Present: Ise (an ancient shrine that is destroyed and rebuilt every twenty years)Japan has one of the longest life spans in the world, and the greatest number of centenarians―many of whom cite their strong sense of ikigai as the basis for their happiness and longevity. Unlike many “self-care” practices, which require setting aside time in an increasingly busy world, the ikigai method helps you find peace and fulfillment in your busy life.
